Sanait · Updated September 2026

Buying custom acrylic is a document problem before it is a price problem. Factories quote what is written: sheet route, thickness, finish, hardware, quantity, destination, and inspection. A photo of a competitor’s fixture is a starting sketch, not an RFQ. This guide walks from first email through sample, bulk, inspection, pack, and ship — and separates general procurement practice from one factory’s commercial terms.

Key takeaways

A usable RFQ names product type, size, sheet route, thickness, finish, print, hardware, quantity, Incoterms, and destination.

MOQ is a setup-cost decision. That is a commercial term on their FAQ, not a market law.

A paid prototype is usually one or a few pieces and sits outside the production MOQ.

Repeat orders of an unchanged drawing can sometimes go below the first-run floor. Ask; do not assume.

If a quoted MOQ is far below peers, check whether the plant is selling stock leftovers, skipping a sample, or using a different sheet route than you specified.

Acrylic sample guide

Ask what the sample is for. Those purposes are not the same object.

Fit sample: confirms pocket and overall size against the live SKU.

Finish sample: confirms edge polish, joint clarity, and tint.

Print sample: confirms artwork size and color method.

Golden sample: the signed piece bulk will be inspected against.

Simple cut-and-join parts often leave a sample bench in a few working days; assembled or printed pieces take longer. Sanait’s FAQ describes most simple samples in about 2–5 working days and more complex ones up to about a week. Other plants will differ. Pay for the sample if the construction is new. A “free sample” of a stock tray does not validate your magnet-lid box.

Acrylic production lead time

Write three dates on the purchase order, not one.

Sample clock — starts when the drawing is agreed and, if required, the sample fee is received.

Bulk clock — starts when the sample is signed and the deposit clears. Typical custom display bulk runs are measured in weeks, not days. Sanait publishes a common bulk window of about 15–25 business days, varying with quantity and finish.

Freight clock — air may be days; sea is weeks plus customs. DDP quotes should say whose calendar includes clearance.

Do not add the three clocks as if they were sequential factory slogans. Sample revisions reset the sample clock. It does not pass or fail a brochure holder. Sheet-on-sheet without film is how transit haze appears.

Protect corners. Most “cracked in shipping” claims start at an unprotected cube corner.

Do not over-tighten straps on a hollow plinth. Compression marks look like warp.

Name the Incoterm. EXW, FOB, CIF, and DDP allocate different damage windows.

Air versus sea is a calendar and humidity choice. Sea needs pack that survives weeks, not a courier afternoon.

If duties and prepaid freight matter to the comparison, say so on the RFQ. Sanait’s FAQ describes air, sea, or rail options when those are quoted; other exporters will package the same modes differently.

FAQ

Can I order custom acrylic from a photo only?

You can start that way. You should not freeze production that way. A photo lacks wall thickness, magnet size, and edge finish. Expect a production drawing before the sample.

Why do two quotes differ by so much?

Usually because the factories assumed different sheet, polish, hardware, or Incoterms. Align those four fields and request the quote again before you decide on “price.”

Is a 3D printed model an acrylic prototype?

No. It can check volume. It does not check PMMA joint chemistry, edge polish, or scratch behavior.

Do I need a new sample on a repeat order?

Not if size, sheet, finish, print, hardware, and carton are unchanged and the factory still holds the signed drawing. Any of those changing usually means a new sample.

What payment split is typical?

Custom export work commonly uses a deposit to start bulk and a balance against shipping documents. The split is commercial. Put it on the PO with the lead-time clocks.

Who owns the drawing after I pay for a sample?

Say so in the PO.
